ISA ETHICS & BOYCOTT
We Stand with the Trees
What is ISA?
ISA stands for the International Society of Arboriculture — a certifying body designed to establish professional standards in tree care. In theory, ISA-certified arborists are trained to follow best practices around pruning, tree health, and safety.
But in practice? The certification often gets used as a marketing tool — not a sign of true expertise or ethics.

Why Boycott ISA?
At Tillamook Tree Service, we’ve chosen to boycott ISA certification.
Too many companies flaunt the badge while ignoring basic standards. Trimming trees year-round is one of the most harmful — and telling — misuses.
We believe certifications should mean something. And if they’re used to support harmful business practices? We want no part in that.
-
We don’t trim live trees outside of dormancy — unless there’s a hazard or biological reason to do so.
-
We educate clients, don't take advantage.
-
We put trees first, even if that means turning down work.
Integrity is a choice.
We live it — with or without a badge.
Do right by the trees —
They were here before us and will be here after.
👁️ SEE IT? 📸 DOCUMENT IT. 👮♂️ REPORT IT.
If you witness unethical tree work — pruning out of season, unnecessary topping, or damage being done under the name of "certification" — don’t stay silent.
📸 Take a photo.
🕒 Note the company, date, time, and location.

True arboriculture means accountability for the trees - not profiting off of their improper care. Let's protect them together!
